Palpebra

Cassina, design by Ico Parisi 1970-2024

Cassina’s R&D department entrusted xyy design with developing a new version of the Palpebra lamp, designed by the Maestro Ico Parisi in 1970.

The project involved a complete redesign of the light source and a reengineering of the mechanisms to overcome the limitations of the original model. The original model used a magnet to position the reflector, preventing precise and smooth adjustment. We developed a miniaturized rotation system for the new version that allows accurate light emission angle control.

During the development process, we identified an opportunity to enhance the product’s usability. In collaboration with Cassina, we replaced the original switch—previously positioned along the cable—with a capacitive switch integrated into the diffuser’s ring, allowing for more intuitive light modulation.

The complete redesign also provided the opportunity to refine the original aesthetics by eliminating all visible screws, resulting in a cleaner and more elegant visual impact.
